Spires Complete Sweep of Southwestern
Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team concluded their weekend series against the Southwestern College Builders with a doubleheader on Sunday, resulting in a 9-4 win and a 2-1 win. The Spires are now 14-27 on the year and 7-18 in the KCAC.
Game One
Saint Mary got off to an early 2-0 lead after scoring two runs from singles hit by Jordan McClellan and Brendan Roop. The Builders were able to tie things up after scoring a run in the top of the second and fourth innings, but an RBI from Keaton Herron allowed the Spires to retake the lead in the top half of the fourth. However, Southwestern got two runs back in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
Game Two
The game started off slow, with both teams struggling to get on the scoreboard. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth inning that the first run was scored. Keaton Herron of Saint Mary hit a solo home run, bringing the crowd to their feet and giving the Spires a 1-0 lead. The Builders responded in the top of the fifth inning, tying the game up at 1-1 after a ground-out RBI. In the bottom of the Seventh inning, the Spires made their move. Kruz Wahasuck reached on an error, bringing Steele Sadler home and giving the Spires a 2-1 win. Herron led the Spires at the plate in game two, going two for three with an RBI and a run scored.

The Spires will host Avila University at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
