SALINA, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team delivered a statement win going on the road to knock off top-seeded Kansas Wesleyan, 75-70, in a thrilling KCAC showdown.
Saint Mary found themselves in an early hole, trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half. However, a determined defensive effort after halftime turned the tide, as the Spires held the Coyotes to just 13 points in the fourth quarter while surging ahead with a 24-point final frame.
Freshman Summer Wieneke provided a huge spark off the bench, knocking down 4-of-5 shots from beyond the arc and finishing with 16 points in just 19 minutes of action. Alanis Delgado led the team with 15 points, while Katelynn Ostronic added 14, controlling the paint with seven rebounds. The Spires shot an efficient 44.4% from the field and outpaced Kansas Wesleyan 34-26 in points in the paint.
The Spires' defense played a pivotal role in the second-half comeback, forcing tough shots and limiting Kansas Wesleyan to just 29.9% shooting overall. Saint Mary also held a slight 43-42 edge on the boards, using key rebounds to fuel transition opportunities and second-chance buckets.

With the win, the Spires continue to build momentum as they push toward postseason play and securing a higher seed in the KCAC. The victory improves the Spires to 10-12 overall and 9-7 in conference play. They will return back home next Wednesday to face Evangel at 5:30pm.
