
Saint Mary Swim Teams Shine at Sunflower Showdown
LAWRENCE, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary swimming teams made a splash at the Sunflower Showdown in Lawrence, Kansas, this past Friday, with standout performances across the board. Despite coming off a grueling week of practice, the Spires delivered a solid team performance, facing tough competition in a high-stakes environment.
The men's team dominated the meet, claiming first place with 755 points, outpacing Barton Community College (517) and Sterling College (63). The women's team held their own, finishing second with 425 points, just behind Division I University of Kansas (1157).
NAIA National B Cuts
- Blake Jorgens continued his impressive form, earning another NAIA National B cut in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 48.31 seconds.
- Ayla Pierce, an All-American last season, secured a B cut in the 100 Butterfly, finishing in 1:01.59.
Other Notable Performances Strong contributions came from Ian Lucas, Luke Taylor, Olivia Ringle, and Matt Hall, while several freshmen impressed in the high-pressure setting. Taya Swarts, Maria Trotta (a dual-sport athlete who also plays soccer), Ava Steier, and Nick Allison showcased their potential with outstanding swims.
