SPRINGFIELD, MO. - The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team secured an impressive road victory against Evangel University, rallying from an early deficit to triumph 64-59. The Spires, now 5-5 on the season and 4-0 in conference play, displayed resilience and poise as they overcame a 12-point first-quarter deficit.
Saint Mary struggled to find their footing early, trailing 9-21 early in the second quarter. However, the Spires slowly chipped away at the Valor's lead, thanks to strong interior play and defensive adjustments. By halftime, they had narrowed the gap to 31-35.
The turning point came midway through the fourth quarter when Addison Tower sank a crucial three-pointer to give the Spires their final lead of the game, 53-51, with just under seven minutes remaining. From there, USM never relinquished control, maintaining their composure despite late pressure from Evangel. The team's balanced attack and defensive discipline played a pivotal role in their victory.
Alanis Delgado led the Spires in scoring, pouring in 15 points and adding five rebounds and four assists in her 35 minutes of action.
