Volleyball Beats Friends for Seventh Straight Win

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball team hosted the Friends Falcons for a KCAC matchup on Wednesday, resulting in a 3-0 win. The Spires are now 14-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Saint Mary built a sizeable lead to begin the first set. Kills from Devyn Ford and Madison Folsom helped give the Spires an 8-1 lead over Friends. The offensive output proved too much for the Falcons as Saint Mary went on another extended run to make it 19-9. Folson and Ainsley Gardner provided the firepower to take set one from the Falcons 25-15.

The Spires continued to put pressure on Friends offensively in the second set, once again jumping out to a favorable 7-2 lead. The Falcons kept up with Saint Mary and, at one point, pulled within three points of USM. However, kills from Rylee Kenitzer allowed the Spires to pull away from Friends. Folsom had four of the last five points for the Spires to end the set, including three straight kills, making the final 25-13.

Ford and Kenitzer helped Saint Mary create a significant lead over the Falcons in the third and final set. Friends could not keep up with the dominant and precise attack from the Spires and fell behind 16-7 after a kill from Renata Dominguez. Points from Gardner, Camryn Wessel, and Addy Adamek gave the Spires all they needed to close out the Falcons in three sets. Folsom led the team with 13 kills on the night, while Gabby Kurle had 14 digs.
