Spires Come Up Short To Avila

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary baseball team came up short in game one of their series with Avila University by a score of 20-11 Tuesday afternoon.

Saint Mary is now 1-13 overall and 1-3 in the KCAC.

The Spires came out scoring first in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly by Myles Thompson to score Daniel Gonzales, 1-0. Avila was able to capitalize and score eight runs in the top of the third to give themselves a comfortable lead. The Spires did not let themselves get discouraged offensively followed by a three run home run by Gonzales to cut the deficit to three runs at 8-5. The Spires struggled with their pitching were able to give Avila four more runs in the top of the fourth at 12-5. The Spires kept chipping away offensively but struggled with commanding their pitches allowing Avila to win 20-11.

Gonzales lead the team with four hits and three RBIs, Oscar Osorio and Jarett Goss also collected three hits.
