Spires Come Up Short To Tabor

GODDARD, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary baseball team came up short in a double header against Tabor College Monday afternoon, falling 11-10 and 30-1.

Saint Mary is now 1-15 overall and 1-5 in the KCAC.

The Spires put runs on the board in the first inning thanks to a single to center field by Damian Lomeli to score Alex Guevara, 2-0. Tabor answered back against the Spires to take the lead in the bottom of the third, 3-2. The Spires looked to capitalize off Tabor's big inning and added three more runs in the top of the fourth, 7-5. Tabor answered back in the bottom of the fourth adding another run, 8-5. The Spires looked to make a comeback, but allowed Tabor to earn two more runs to gain the lead at 10-5. The Spires not looking discoursed were able to tie the game up thanks to a couple of base hits and a three run homerun by Antonio Valentin, 10-10. The Spires struggled with pitching location in the bottom of the ninth to give a walk off wild pitch to Tabor, 11-10.

Peyton Garvin led the team with three hits and Valentin collected three RBIs.

In the second game the Spires struggled with offense and their pitching. In the first inning they allowed Tabor to score eight runs in the bottom of the first. The Spires struggled to capitalize and pitched insufficient to allow Tabor to take the second game, 30-1.

Kawika Hubbell collected two hits and Lomeli collected the only RBI.
