Spires Struggle Against Bethany

LINDSBORG, Kan. - The University of Saint Mary baseball team fell in a doubleheader versus Bethany College today, 5-2 and 4-0.

Saint Mary is now 3-19 overall and 3-9 in the KCAC.

GAME 1
In the first game the Spires answered first with a run in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single by Oscar Osorio to score Damian Lomeli, 1-0. The Swedes capitalized in the bottom of the third to score five runs, 5-1. Both teams pitched efficiently and Daulton East held the Swedes the rest of the game with just five runs. The Spires were able to add one more run in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single by Steele Sadler to score Kawika Hubbell but it was not enough for the Spires as they fell 5-2.

Hubbell, Sadler and Lomeli lead the team with two hits.

GAME 2
In game two for the Spires; struggled to wake up their bats. Drake Pingel pitched with conviction but the Spires offense could not produce any runs. Bethany would score four runs and pitched efficiently to hold the Spires scoreless. The Swedes held the Spires to just two hits and won the game, 4-0.

Hubbell and Lomeli collected the Spires only two hits.

Saint Mary is back in action Sunday at 12 pm to finish the series with Bethany.
