Spires Split With Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - The University of Saint Mary baseball team split with Baker University Tuesday afternoon, winning 11-10 and falling 7-2.

Saint Mary is now 6-26 overall and 5-16 in the KCAC.

In the first game the Wildcats were able to score a run in the top of the first, 1-0. The Spires were not discouraged and blasted off seven runs in the bottom of the first to lead, 7-1. Baker was able to rally in three runs to cut the deficit by three, 7-4. The Spires capitalized in the bottom of the second to lead, 8-4. The Wildcats were not giving up and were able to cash in four more runs in the top of the third to tie it up, 8-8. The Spires looked to answer back were able to add a run in the bottom of the third thanks to a fielders choice by Antonio Valentin to score Steele Sadler, 9-8. Heading into the top of the seventh the Wildcats were able to tie the game up and extended the game to extras, 9-9. Baker looked to chip away and gain the lead in the top of the eighth, 10-9. The Spires looked to capitalize and were able to tie the game up, 10-10. The Spires were able to pull through and walk it off thanks to an RBI single by Oscar Osorio to score Daniel Gonzales, 11-10.

Osorio led the offense with two hits and three RBIs.

In the second game the Spires struggled offensively and were unable to keep up with the Wildcats. The Spires started off strong in the top of the first thanks to a lead off home run by Sadler, 1-0. The Wildcats then capitalized and led the Spires most of the game as the Spires struggled to cash in offensively. The Spires would fall game two, 7-2.

Sadler lead the offense with three hits.
