Baseball Ends Series With Friends

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – After falling in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to Friends University, the University of Saint Mary baseball team was unable to take the final contest of the series on Sunday – falling 17-2 on Senior Weekend. Prior to Saturday's contests seniors Daulton East, Joshua Robinson, Drake Pingel, Oscar Osorio, Damian Lomeli, Daniel Gonzales, Myles Thompson, Johnny Vasquez, Jarett Goss and Antonio Valentin were honored for their contributions to the USM baseball program.

Saint Mary is now 7-36 overall and 6-23 in the KCAC.

Friends got off to a hot start just like on Saturday as they put together 10 runs in the first two innings against the Spires. Saint Mary struggled on offense through the first five innings as the Falcons would later go up 15-0 after four innings of play.

The Spires were able to put together two runs in the sixth inning as Gonzales hit an RBI-double to score Steele Sadler. Lomeli would later hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field to bring in Gonzales.

Friends was then able to hold the Spires scoreless in the seventh inning as the game ended due to run-rule.

Six different Spires had one hit each, while Gonzales and Lomeli each collected an RBI.
