Spires Drop Wednesday Matchup to Owls

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team hosted the William Woods Owls for a non-conference game on Wednesday, resulting in a 14-9 loss. The Spires are now 16-23 overall and 10-16 in conference play.

 

The Spires had an early jump to the game, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning, putting them ahead. William Woods battled back in the top of the second, scoring five runs. Saint Mary responded in the second inning, scoring all three runs with two outs. Ben Cordova singled to left center field, scoring both Justin Nunez and Brenden Roop. The rally continued with a single to right field from Daniel Martinez, scoring Caleb McClellan. Saint Mary was able to produce runs throughout the game but couldn't hold the Owls defensively. Martinez led the Spires at the place, going four for six on the day with three RBIs. The Owls were able to outscore the Spires down the stretch, resulting in the 14-9 loss for Saint Mary.
