Spires Drop Series Finale to Blue Jays

Hillsboro, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team traveled to play Tabir College in their mid-week series finale on Wednesday, resulting in a 14-5 loss. The Spires are now 16-27 overall and 10-20 in KCAC play.

A sacrifice fly gave Tabor the first runs of the day in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. A groundout to the shortstop by Trevor Neely tied the game at one in the top of the second, but the Blue Jays responded in the bottom half of the second with another run to retake the lead. Tabor tacked on two more runs in the third to make it a 4-1 ball game.

Saint Mary was able to tie the game once again in the top of the fourth. A single to right field from Eli Prine scored two runs and allowed the Spires to cut into the Tabor lead. An error by the Blue Jay's third baseman allowed Caleb McClellan to score, tying the game up at four runs apiece. However, Tabor posted nine unanswered runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a comfortable 13-4 lead over the Spires. Another fielding error from Tabor allowed Jack Knutson to score their fifth and final run of the day in the eighth inning. A solo home run from the Blue Jays in the eighth inning made the final score 14-5.
