High-Scoring Affair Ends in Road Loss for Spires Baseball Against Tabor

Hillsboro, KS - The University of Saint Mary baseball team traveled to Tabor College and fell in a high-scoring contest, losing 25-12. Despite a strong offensive showing that included three home runs, the Spires couldn't keep pace with Tabor's explosive offense on the day.

The game started with Tabor jumping out to an early 8-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Spires responded in a big way in the top of the second, erupting for seven runs. Shawn Marquis drove in a run with a walk, Bryce Turner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another, and Daniel Martinez followed with a grand slam, bringing the Spires within one run at 8-7. Sergio Fierro capped off the inning with an RBI single to tie the game.

However, Tabor answered right back in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs to regain the lead. The scoring continued back and forth, with the Spires adding three more runs in the top of the fourth, including a two-run home run by Caleb McClellan and an RBI single from Preston Gibson.

Despite the Spires' offensive efforts, Tabor's bats remained hot throughout the game, as they continued to score consistently in each inning. Jack Knutson added a two-run home run for Saint Mary in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome Tabor's significant lead.

Daniel Martinez led the Spires' offense with a home run and four RBIs. Caleb McClellan and Jack Knutson each added a home run and two RBIs, while Shawn Marquis, Bryce Turner, Sergio Fierro, and Preston Gibson each contributed an RBI.

The Spires used seven different pitchers in the contest. Robert Rosado took the loss, allowing seven runs in his brief outing.
