LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary football team claimed a 35-22 Homecoming victory over Bethany, improving their record in front of a supportive home crowd. The Spires held a narrow 16-7 lead at halftime, with their first major play coming on the final snap of the first quarter when Michael Gazzana caught a 43-yard pass from Cesar Vela to put USM on the board.
Michael Gazzana led the offense with 99 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, while RJ Webster dominated on the ground, rushing for 213 yards. Cesar Vela, making his third consecutive start, went 11-24 for 139 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. USM's efficiency on third downs (50%) helped keep drives alive, while the defense stepped up with 6 forced turnovers, 3 sacks, and 6 tackles for loss.
