Men's Basketball Drops to McPherson on the Road

McPherson, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team played the McPherson Bulldogs Monday, resulting in an 85-72 loss. The Spires are now 4-6 overall and 0-4 in the KCAC.

The game started with both teams pressing offensively, with Joey Schultz, Deshaud St. Martin, and Braylen Duncan getting things started for the Spires. Midway through the half, when the Spires trailed 35-16, Duncan hit a three-pointer that sparked a momentum swing for Saint Mary. Quentin Williams, Nick Chapman, and Joe Burgos helped the Spires pull within seven points heading into halftime, 44-37.

The second half started with a three by McPherson, which extended the Bulldog lead to ten. The Spires did not give up, as jump shots by Shultz, St. Martin, and Chapman helped Saint Mary remain in the game 60-55. As the half was winding down, the Bulldogs started to pull away. A jumper by Luke Mackey made the score 72-62 in favor of the Bulldogs. That was all they needed to escape with a victory 85-72. St. Martin led the way for the Spires with 19 points and four rebounds, while Duncan and Shultz had a combined 14 points on the night.
