
Saint Mary Dominates Avila, Secures 77-56 Victory at Home
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team delivered a commanding performance on their home court defeating Avila University 77-56. The Spires controlled the game from start to finish, extending an 11-point halftime lead into a decisive 21-point victory.
The Spires set the tone early, using strong defensive pressure and efficient ball movement to stifle Avila. The Spires out-rebounded the Eagles 41-27, dominated the paint with 20 points inside, and capitalized on turnovers with 19 points off giveaways.
Senior Joey Schultz led the way with a game-high 24 points, shooting an impressive 10-for-15 from the field while adding three assists and three steals. Kaeden Bonner followed with 18 points, hitting two three-pointers and going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Jordan Brown played a well-rounded game, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Tre Alexander contributed seven points and six rebounds.
Saint Mary shot 44.3% from the field while holding Avila to just 37.5% shooting. Despite struggling from beyond the arc (4-for-23, 17.4%), the Spires made up for it at the free-throw line, knocking down 73.1% of their attempts compared to Avila's 50%.
