Schultz's 19 Points Leads Spires To Dominant Showing

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team delivered a commanding 88-63 road victory over Northern New Mexico. The Spires took control early, building a decisive 49-24 lead at halftime and holding their advantage throughout the game. With an impressive shooting night, key contributions, and strong teamwork, Saint Mary improved to 2-2 for the season.

Joey Schultz led the Spires with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting, showcasing his efficiency and contributing two free throws. Bryce Johnson added 16 points, shooting 50% from the field and making 4 of 6 free throws while dishing out six assists. Damare Smith also had a notable performance, tallying 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including two three-pointers.

Saint Mary's bench played a critical role, adding 33 points. Mason Belcher provided a spark, scoring 14 points off the bench, including an impressive 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Jason Parson II also contributed solid minutes, scoring 10 points with four rebounds.

Team statistics reflected Saint Mary's offensive dominance and efficient ball movement. The Spires shot an impressive 57.1% from the field and 56.5% from three-point range, while Northern New Mexico managed only 40.7% from the field and struggled from beyond the arc at 26.1%. Saint Mary also outrebounded Northern New Mexico 37-27 and outpaced them in assists, 22-9, reflecting their strong passing and teamwork.

The Spires' ability to capitalize on their opportunities, control the boards, and maintain a high shooting percentage propelled them to a convincing win and further solidified their early-season momentum.
