Men's Soccer draw with Doane in Home Opener 2-2

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary men's soccer team opened their season with a 2-2 draw against Doane University. Doane took an early lead with Ameer Madden scoring in the 18th minute, followed quickly by a second goal from Hugo Santos, putting USM down early 2-0. Despite early struggles, including a few offsides, USM pulled one back before halftime when Isha Hughan scored off a corner, assisted by Oscar Sandoval.

The match grew more in advantage of USM when Doane's Ruben Acosta received his second yellow card in the 59th minute, leading to a red card ejection. The Spires then had multiple opportunities to put it in the back of the net but just couldn't find the winning goal.

The Spires will continue non-conference play as they travel to take on UHSP at 1 p.m. on August 31st.
