
Spires Show Strength Despite Falling to William Jewell
LEAVENWORTH, KAN. – The University of Saint Mary men's swimming team hosted NCAA Division II opponent William Jewell, delivering a series of standout performances despite falling 185-77 in the overall team results.
The Spires kicked off the meet with an impressive showing in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing second with a time of 1:39.57. Senior Gavin Wagner, senior Blake Jorgens, senior Matt Hall, and sophomore Ian Lucas combined efforts to keep pace with William Jewell's top relay team.
Top Individual Performances:

Blake Jorgens had a stellar day in the pool, securing first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.11) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.83). His dominant sprint in the 50 free was the fastest time of the meet.

Ian Lucas complemented Jorgens' sprint success by finishing third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.75) and contributing strong legs in both the medley and freestyle relays.

Gavin Wagner delivered another standout performance, claiming first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.32) and finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke (56.37).

Luke Taylor earned a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.42), narrowly missing first place by just 0.03 seconds, and finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.07).

Mayson Thiebaud added valuable points for the Spires, placing third in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.20) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.53).

Matt Hall showed grit in the 100-yard butterfly (57.97), battling tough competition to secure fourth place.

The Spires closed out the meet with a strong performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay, taking second with a time of 3:19.14. The relay team featured Ian Lucas, Luke Taylor, senior Jake Huisman, and Blake Jorgens, who anchored the squad with a solid final leg.
