MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD COMPETE IN DAY ONE OF KCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Leavenworth, Kan.-  The Spires Track and Field team’s kicked off the KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on their home track. After day one the men’s team currently boasts a first place lead as they head into day two of competition.

 

Chinedu Nwadike claimed the title of conference champion in the hammer throw. Nwadike threw for a distance of 48.35m (158’ 8”) to win it. Tyler Cherne placed 5th with a throw of 43.68m (143’ 4”). 

 

The Spires filled up the podium in the 3000m steeplechase. Daniel Pantoja, Dawson Adams, and Kaden Cooley all finished first, second and third. Pantoja ran a time of 9:23.23, Adams with a time of 9:23.80, and Cooley with a time of 9:24.98 to sweep the podium. All three athletes would go under the NAIA B-standard with their performances. Kenneth Howell also scored, finishing 8th with a time of 10:07.

 

Julian Bishop placed 2nd in the pole vault, clearing 3.95m (12’ 11.5”).

 

In the 100m prelims, KC Harrison and Nurye Brookins-Cornell both moved on to finals. Harrison finished 5th in prelims with a time of 10.90 and Brookins-Cornell finished 8th with a time of 11.07. They will compete again tomorrow in the finals at approximately 5:50 PM.

 

Elijah Cole finished 2nd in the 110m hurdles prelims with a time of 15.06. He will compete in the finals tomorrow at approximately 4:35 PM.

 

In the 4x800 relay the team of Austin Howell, Jonah Godina, Luis Perez, Elvis Rojas-King ran a close race with an ending time of 7:45 which got them a second place finish. They also ended with a NAIA B-standard time. 

 

KC Harrison is moving on to finals after finishing 4th in the 200m prelims. Harrison ran a time of 22.11. 

 

Spires were well represented in the 10,000m. Ryan Heline took the gold, winning the race with a time of 30:49. Heline’s time was good enough for the NAIA A-standard. Chris Metz made the podium, placing third with a time of 31:28. Daniel Correa placed 7th with a time of 32:59 and Camden Bachman rounded things out with an 8th place finish and a time of 33:16.

 

The Spires will be back at it tomorrow when field events kick off at 11:00 AM.
