SIOUX CITY, IA – The University of Saint Mary Spires maintained their impressive start to the season, securing a 5-1 victory over the Briar Cliff (IA) Chargers. The Spires' offense delivered timely hits, and their pitching staff held strong, pushing their early-season record to a flawless 6-0.
Game Recap: Spires' Offense and Pitching Lead to Victory
The game began with both teams trading runs in the first inning. Saint Mary capitalized on an error to score Audrey Spellman, while Briar Cliff responded with an RBI double from Kaela Persico. However, the Spires quickly regained control and never relinquished the lead.
Saint Mary added a run in the second inning when Jessica Strandlund was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Audrey Spellman then delivered an RBI double in the third, extending the Spires' lead to 3-1. The Spires sealed the victory in the sixth inning with a two-run homer from Alexis McDaniel, bringing Audrey Spellman home.
