Women's Basketball Falls Short To Tabor
HILLSBORO, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team fell short in a tough battle with Tabor College Wednesday night on the road. The final score was 42-38.
The Spires are now 2-14 overall and 2-10 in the KCAC.
Macy Walker began the game with a basket in the paint to put the Spires on the board first, but the Bluejays would retaliate with a quick three-pointer. Moments later, Keondra White stole the ball and took it to the paint for two. Tabor went on a 9-2 run to end the quarter to give them a 12-8 lead. In the second quarter, Dakota Corle got the Spires within two. Tabor creeped their lead back up to seven and lead 21-14 at halftime.
Tabor would extend their lead in the second half to double digits, but Saint Mary had a big fourth quarter to make things interesting. Back-to-back buckets by Rebecca Gilpin made it only a two possession game. The Bluejays would punch back with back-to-back buckets of their own. Danielle Cassady drained a three late in the fourth and then made a pair of free-throws to make it a 42-38. Saint Mary had a few chances to tie the game, but came up short.
Cassady led the team with 17 points and six rebounds. Gilpin finished with seven points. The Spires defense forced the Bluejays to 13 turnovers.
