
Spires Beatdown the Bulldogs
LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team delivered a commanding performance defeating the McPherson Bulldogs 82-46.
From the opening tip, Saint Mary asserted their dominance, utilizing a balanced attack and relentless defensive effort. The Spires shot an efficient 49.2% from the field while holding McPherson to just 30.2% shooting. The defensive intensity translated into numerous scoring opportunities, with the Spires capitalizing on 14 Bulldog turnovers for 17 points.
Game Highlights
Addison Schletzbaum was the standout performer of the night, recording a perfect 12-for-12 shooting performance and leading all scorers with 30 points. The sophomore guard also added seven rebounds and six free throws, showcasing her ability to control the game on both ends of the floor.
Katelynn Ostronic dominated the boards, pulling down 16 rebounds—five of them offensive—and adding six points to her tally. Her presence in the paint was instrumental in securing second-chance opportunities for the Spires, who outscored McPherson 10-7 in second-chance points.
Alanis Delgado chipped in 12 points, including two three-pointers, while Alyche Brown added five points and two assists in a solid all-around effort. Off the bench, Cady Huffman made a significant impact with six points and five rebounds in just five minutes of play.
Saint Mary controlled the tempo throughout the game, leading by as much as 36 points late in the fourth quarter. Their ability to out-rebound McPherson 42-28 further highlighted the Spires' comprehensive team effort.
McPherson struggled to find rhythm, particularly from beyond the arc, managing only one three-pointer on nine attempts. Their leading scorer was limited to single digits as the Spires' defense stifled the Bulldogs' offensive flow.
