
Women's Basketball Falls To Kansas Wesleyan 66-54
LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - On a night featuring two of the KCAC's top Women's Basketball programs, the Spires fell just short 66-54 to Kansas Wesleyan.
In a game defined by defensive intensity and physical play, both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm early. The Spires held a slim 6-point lead midway through the second quarter, but Kansas Wesleyan's ability to capitalize on free-throw opportunities and second-chance points shifted momentum before halftime. The Coyotes took a 27-23 lead into the break and never relinquished it.
The Spires' offensive struggles were evident throughout the game, as they shot just 27.9% from the field and 11.1% from beyond the arc. Despite their shooting woes, standout performances from Addison Schletzbaum, Katelynn Ostronic, Marissa Covington kept Saint Mary competitive. Delgado also led the Spires with 13 points, adding four assists and going 5-for-7 from the free-throw line. Schletzbaum was a force on the boards, recording a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds, while Ostronic contributed 10 points and five rebounds in just 15 minutes of play.
The game's turning point came in the second half, as Kansas Wesleyan extended their lead to double digits with consistent free-throw shooting, converting 33 of their 48 attempts. Saint Mary, meanwhile, missed critical opportunities at the charity stripe, shooting 58.1% (18-for-31). The Coyotes' bench also outscored the Spires' reserves 20-14, providing key contributions to secure the win.
Rebounding was a bright spot for Saint Mary, as the Spires matched Kansas Wesleyan with 45 boards apiece, including 10 offensive rebounds. However, the Coyotes' ability to generate 14 second-chance points and convert turnovers into nine points proved decisive.

The Spires will look to bounce back after the holiday break when they host Sterling College on Saturday, January 4th.
