
Women's Soccer Slips to KWU
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team fell in a nail-biter against Kansas Wesleyan, 1-0 at Berkel Memorial Stadium Wednesday night in a battle between KCAC squads.
Saint Mary is 1-7 overall and 1-2 in KCAC play.
GAME FLOW
It didn't take long for the first goal of the game to come as Kansas Wesleyan scored in the first five minutes. The Coyotes Nissa Inzunza found the net to give the Coyotes the 1-0 lead. Saint Mary nearly tied it up just a few minutes later when the ball was sent into the box from Claire Wilhoite. Amanda Martin gained control, but shot the ball just wide of the net.
Wilhoite and Molly Devine also took shots in the period, but both shots sailed just wide. Kansas Wesleyan would take a 1-0 halftime lead.
Early in the second half, Justine Brown-DaCosta would get a chance at a penalty kick, but Coyotes goalkeeper Angelica Guerrero made the save. The rest of the game would be a stalemate as the score stayed 1-0 throughout. The Spires defense held firm as goalkeeper Emilie Korenek made two saves down the stretch.

Korenek made nine saves in the match for the Spires.
Wilhoite led the Spires with two total shots.
Kansas Wesleyan had 21 shots compared to seven for Saint Mary.
