York, NEB. - The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 road victory over York in a slow-paced defensive battle. After a scoreless first half, the Spires wasted no time breaking the deadlock early in the second half when Rebecca Lord found the back of the net in the 48th minute. Lord's goal, which ended up being the match-winner, was beautifully set up by assists from Kaylee Shaw and Jaidyn Cavalieri.
York applied heavy pressure throughout the game, taking 16 shots, but the Spires' defense, anchored by goalkeeper Marisol Vargas, held strong. Vargas was outstanding between the posts, recording 8 crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.
