Early Offense Leads Way, Win 3-1 Over Southwestern

WINFIELD, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team claimed a 3-1 victory on the road against Southwestern College. The Spires' balanced attack and solid defense secured the win, improving their conference record to 7-5.

Saint Mary started strong, with forward Nanako Hallier opening the scoring just ten minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. Southwestern responded in the 25th minute when Teagan Smith scored to level the game at 1-1. Before the end of the first half, Rebecca Lord found the back of the net in the 39th minute, reclaiming the lead for Saint Mary.

In the second half, the Spires continued to pressure Southwestern's defense, tallying nine more shots. Nieves Vazquez sealed the win with a goal in the 79th minute, assisted by goalkeeper Marisol Vargas, marking her first assist of the season. Vargas also had three key saves to keep Southwestern scoreless in the second half.

Saint Mary outshot Southwestern 18-4, with 11 shots on goal compared to Southwestern's four. The win reflects Saint Mary's effective offense and defensive cohesion, as they head into the season's final stretch with momentum.
