Women's Soccer Claim 5-0 Victory in Season Finale

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team celebrated their final home game with a commanding 5-0 victory over McPherson College. The Lady Spires set the tone early, with defender Jadyn McBurney opening the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed pass to put Saint Mary up 1-0. The momentum continued as forward Rebecca Lord doubled the lead in the 28th minute, driving a powerful shot past the McPherson goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Saint Mary came out of halftime with renewed intensity. Midfielder Josie Hallier took control, scoring twice in quick succession to extend the lead. Her first goal came just three minutes into the second half, and she followed it up with another less than two minutes later, bringing the score to a decisive 4-0. McPherson's defense struggled to contain the Lady Spires' relentless attack, and Katie Hartley sealed the victory in the 83rd minute with a fifth goal off the bench.

Throughout the game, Saint Mary dominated possession, recording 18 shots to McPherson's six and generating 10 shots on goal. The Lady Spires also controlled set pieces, winning six corners compared to McPherson's one. Goalkeeper Marisol Vargas made five saves to secure a clean sheet, while the defensive line remained solid, keeping McPherson's attempts at bay.

In a match that saw plenty of physical play, McPherson picked up six yellow cards, while Saint Mary committed no fouls and received four cautions. This win caps off a successful home season for Saint Mary, showcasing their strength on both ends of the field and providing plenty of momentum as they head into their final road games.
