Women's Soccer take down Doane in Home Opener

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team opened their season with a 2-1 victory over Doane University. After a scoreless first half, where both teams remained evenly matched and Saint Mary had four offside calls, the Spires found their rhythm in the second half. In the 58th minute, Tessa Lucas broke the scoreless game with a well-placed shot to give the Spires the lead. Shortly after, Nanako Hallier added a second goal, putting the Spires up 2-0.

Doane responded with a late goal from Savannah Franzoy, but it wasn't enough to overcome Saint Mary's advantage. Marisol Vargas made eight saves throughout the match, helping secure the win for the Spires as they start their season 1-0.
