LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team fell 3-1 in a road match against Avila. The game began at a controlled pace, with Avila taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Saint Mary responded early in the second half when Rebecca Lord converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to level the score at 1-1.
However, Avila quickly regained control, with Leah Reichert scoring in the 57th minute to make it 2-1. The Spires fought hard but couldn't find another equalizer. Mackenzie Baxley secured the win for Avila with a goal in the 85th minute. Saint Mary's goalkeeper, Marisol Vargas, recorded five saves, while Avila managed a total of eight shots on goal throughout the match.
