Spires Earn Home Victory Over Bethany, 5-2

Leavenworth, KS – The University of Saint Mary women's tennis team hosted Bethany College and secured a 5-2 victory on their home courts. The Spires displayed strong performances in both doubles and singles play to earn the win.

Saint Mary started the dual strong by taking the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of Rowen Wiemers and Tracy Llamas earned a decisive 6-2 victory over M. Mistereck and K. Adam. The No. 2 pairing of Shannon Finn and Mia Rojas also secured a win, defeating K. Metro and M. Russom 6-3, giving the Lady Spires an early 1-0 lead heading into singles competition. The No. 3 doubles match went to Bethany's H. Harbit and A. Castillo Paz, who edged out Courtney Standley and Monse Guerrero-Chapula 6-4.

In singles play, the Lady Spires continued their success, taking four of the six matches. At No. 1 singles, Tracy Llamas delivered a dominant performance, defeating A. Castillo Paz in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. Shannon Finn also secured a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-3, 6-3 over M. Mistereck. Mia Rojas battled hard at No. 3 singles, ultimately prevailing in a thrilling three-set match against K. Metro 0-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4. Monse Guerrero-Chapula lost a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 4 singles, being defeated by M. Russom 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-3).

Bethany College picked up two singles victories. At No. 5 singles, K. Adam defeated Rowen Wiemers in a close three-set match 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-6). At No. 6 singles, Courtney Standley edged out H. Harbit in a tight three-set battle 4-6, 6-1, 12-10.

With the 5-2 victory, the University of Saint Mary women's tennis team's record improves to 6-5. They will now prepare for their Kansas Wesleyan University on April 6th in Salina, KS.
