Women's Tennis Dominates Kansas Wesleyan 5-2

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary women's tennis team delivered a strong performance on the road, defeating Kansas Wesleyan University by a decisive score of 5-2. The Spires showcased their depth and talent, securing the doubles point early and following it up with impressive singles victories to overcome the nationally ranked Coyotes.

The Spires set the tone early by clinching the crucial doubles point. Rowen Wiemers and Tracy Llamas teamed up to secure a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles position. While Shannon Finn and Arsys Rojas fell 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, Courtney Standley and Monse Guerrero-Chapula rallied to win their No. 3 doubles match 6-2, giving Saint Mary a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

The momentum continued in singles as Shannon and Monse quickly extended the Spires' lead. Shannon delivered a commanding straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3. Monse followed suit with an equally dominant straight-set win at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-0, putting the Spires in a comfortable 3-0 advantage.

Kansas Wesleyan managed to narrow the gap to 3-1 with a win at No. 3 singles. However, Tracy stepped up in the No. 1 singles position and delivered a well-earned victory. Facing a tough opponent, Tracy showcased her skill and determination, clinching the match for the Spires with a 6-1, 6-4 win over the nationally ranked Coyote player.

With the overall match decided, the remaining singles matches continued. Rowen was engaged in a hard-fought battle at No. 5 singles, winning the first set 6-3 but ultimately her opponent retired in the third set after splitting the second 3-6 and being down 1-2 in the third. Courtney also battled hard at No. 6 singles, eventually falling in a close three-set match in the super tiebreaker.

The Spires will be back on their home courts on Thursday, April 10th, when they host Evangel University (MO) with the first serve scheduled for 12:15 PM CDT. This impressive result brings their overall record to 7-5 as they look forward to their next match.
