Spires Sweep The Vikings In Parkville

Parkville, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Volleyball team took on the Missouri Valley Vikings to finish their two-game stint in Parkville, resulting in a 3-0 win. The Spires are now 8-4 on the year.

Saint Mary scored early and often in the first set, going on an 8-2 run. The Vikings chipped away at the Spire lead with a short run of their own to make it 10-8. Kills from Maddison Folsom and Devyn Ford helped Saint Mary regain momentum from Missouri Valley and built a 17-9 lead after a kill from Rylee Kenitzer. However, the Vikings did not give up and went on a six-point run to come within three of the Spires late in the set. Errors by Missouri Valley and a kill from Rebecca Sprague finished the set 25-20.

In set two, the Vikings used the late set one momentum to jump to a 5-2 lead over Saint Mary. The Spires rallied, and a service ace from Ava Bojanski tied things up at 14 apiece. Bojanski had two more service aces during a small five-point run to give Saint Mary a four-point lead. Both teams went back and forth as they inched closer to the set point. A kill from Kenitzer put momentum back in the hands of the Spires as they took set two 25-22.

The third and final set was another close tug-of-war between the Spires and Vikings, featuring four lead changes. Saint Mary was forced to play catchup throughout most of the set, staying within two points of Missouri Valley and tying up the game multiple times. Folsom had two kills to tie the game, once at 22 and again at 23. Keagan Schokley and Kenitzer each had kills to bring an end to set three by a score of 27-25 to give the Spires their eighth win of the season.
