Spires Rally in Set 5 to Defeat Friends in Thrilling Road Win

WICHITA, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary volleyball team secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Friends University in a tightly contested conference matchup on the road Wednesday night. The Spires came out strong, winning the first set 25-14, but Friends responded with a 25-22 win in the second set. Saint Mary took a 2-1 set lead after dominating the third set 25-14.

The fourth set went into overtime, with Friends narrowly edging out the Spires 27-25 to push the match to a decisive fifth set. Despite falling behind 4-9 early, Saint Mary mounted an 11-4 comeback to claim a 15-13 victory in the final set, securing the match.

Key moments included a 43% kill rate in the fifth set and four Spires reaching double-digit kills: Devyn Ford, Ainsley Gardner, Renata Dominguez, and Emma Murphy. On defense, Macey Adams, Gabby Kurle, and Ava Bojanski each recorded double-digit digs. Saint Mary finished the match with a 21% overall kill percentage.

With the win, the Spires improved to 13-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Up next, Saint Mary will face Kansas Wesleyan on the road this Saturday, October 5th, at 2 p.m.
