
Spires clean sweep foes at Ottawa University Tournament
OTTAWA, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary Spires completed a dominant weekend at Ottawa University, securing three victories in as many matches. The Spires posted wins over #18 Columbia (3-2), Missouri Valley (3-2), and Hannibal-LaGrange (3-0), ending the weekend with a perfect sweep.e
In the opening match against Columbia, the Spires pulled off an impressive comeback after dropping the first two sets. Rallying with strong team play, they won three consecutive sets to upset the 18th-ranked team in the country, securing the 3-2 victory.
In the second match against Missouri Valley, the Spires' defense and offense worked in tandem, with Macey Adams recording 31 digs and the team combining for 68 kills. The match went the full five sets, and a key moment came in the fourth set, where the Spires won 30-28, posting a 48.7% kill percentage in that set. Saint Mary closed out the match 3-2, completing their second comeback of the weekend.
The final match against Hannibal-LaGrange was a more decisive affair. The Spires swept the opponent 3-0, hitting a 28.6% kill percentage to dominate the match from start to finish.
