Baseball Finishes Urban Youth Academy Tour With Loss Against MNU

Kansas City, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team finished the Urban Youth Academy against Mid America Nazarene, resulting in an 8-2 loss. The Spires are now 5-7 overall on the year.

Saint Mary was held scoreless in the top of the first, leaving one runner left on base. The Pioneers had a productive bottom half of the first, driving in five runs on six hits making the score 5-0 heading into the second inning. After being retired in order in the top of the second, the Spires gave up two more runs in the bottom half of the inning, coming from a two-run homer. The Spires got on the board in the fifth inning after capitalizing on pass balls and two walks. Pinch runner Jack Knutson scored on a wild pitch, and Aidan Hartig crossed the plate after taking advantage of the second pass ball of the inning. Saint Mary was unable to get any more runs across the plate in the sixth and seventh as the game ended in an 8-2 loss. Caleb McClellan went two for three at the plate on the day.
