Spires Fall to McPherson in Ten Innings

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint mary Baseball team hosted the McPherson Bulldogs in game three of their weekend series on Sunday, resulting in a 9-8 loss. The Spires are now 9-24 overall and 3-15 in the KCAC. 

 

Starter Noah Parra was able to keep the first-place Bulldogs at bay for six innings and gave up just two runs. Caleb McClellan tied the game up at 1 with a lead-off solo home run in the first. After a solo home run from McPherson, Jordan McClellan drove in two runs to give the Spires a 3-2 lead. Saint mary was able to get an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning after an RBI single hit by Wyatt Lowry.

 

The Bulldogs retook the lead in the seventh with an RBI double and a three-run home run and built a three-run lead in the eighth inning with an RBI single. However, the Spires did not give up and came within one run of McPherson after Caleb McClellan drove in two runs with a double to right field, making the score 7-6 in favor of the Bulldogs. A one-run top of the ninth made it an 8-6 ball game. Saint Mary put up two runs in the bottom of the nin to force extra innings, but an RBI single by the Bulldogs put the game out of reach for the Spires. Caleb Mclellan led the Spires at the plate, going three for six with three RBIs and two runs scored.

The Spires will host Ottawa for a mid-week matchup at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
