Spires Take Game One Against Blue Jays

Hillsboro, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team opened their weekend series with a single game on Friday against the Tabor Blue Jays, resulting in an 11-4 win. The Spires are now 10-25 overall and 4-16 in the KCAC. 

 

Saint Mary found themselves down early after giving up a run in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Spires were able to take the lead after Jordan McClellan hit a two-run home run making the score 2-1. Tabor took advantage of an error by Saint Mary in the bottom half of the third inning to tie the game up at two runs. In the fourth, each team again scored runs, including a solo home run from Kruz Wahwahsuck. The ball game remained deadlocked at three for the next four innings until the bottom of the eighth. Aaron Osorio doubled to left center, which allowed Ben Cordova to score and take a 4-3 lead. The Spires got two more runs on the board in the eighth to take a three-run lead. Saint Mary then broke the game wide open in the ninth, scoring five more runs to shut the door on the Blue Jays in game one of the weekend series. McClellan led the Spires at the plate on the day, going two for four with two RBIs and a run scored.

Saint Mary will conclude their series with a doubleheader against Tabor College starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Hillsboro, Kansas.
