Spires Beat Wildcats in Tight 9-8 Win

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Baseball team played against Baker University on Wednesday, resulting in a 9-8 win. The team is now 11-27 overall and 4-18 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary wasted no time getting on the board to begin the game as Brendan Roop hit an RBI single to drive in Keaton Herron. The Spires then capitalized with a five-run second inning highlighted by Jack Knutson hitting a two-RBI single to extend the USM lead. After that, the Wildcats began to chip away, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Saint Mary looked to run away with the win after extending their lead to 9-3, but Baker refused to lay down. A three-run fourth inning followed by two more runs in the fifth and seventh inning put pressure on the Spire defense. Saint Mary then closed the door on the Wildcats in the ninth inning to escape with the 9-8 win. Bryce Turner led the team at the plate today, going three for four with two RBIs and two runs scored.
