Spires Win in Walk-Off Fashion Over Builders

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team hosted Southwestern College in game one of their weekend series on Saturday, winning 12-11 on a walk-off hit by a pitch. The Spires are now 12-27 overall and 5-18 in the KCAC. 

 

Saint Mary was able to take a quick and early lead over the Builders, scoring six runs in the first three innings, including a two-RBI double from Kruz Wahwahsuck. Southwestern got one run back in the third inning to make it a 6-1 game. A one-run fourth inning and a big fifth inning made it 7-6 in favor of the Builders. In the sixth inning, Southwestern scored another two runs, but the Spires answered with a two-run bottom half of the inning coming off of sacrifice flies from Noah Parra and Wyatt Lowry to make the score 9-8. 

 

Each team traded off runs in the seventh as well Wahwahsuck got his third RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field. Saint Mary was able to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to come from behind and secure the 12-11 walk-off win. Wahwahsuck led the Spires at the plate, going two for three with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Saint Mary will conclude their weekend series against Southwestern College with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
