Spires Drop Both Games in Saturday Doubleheader

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Baseball team played a doubleheader against Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday, resulting in a 17-1 loss and then a 15-2 loss. The team is now 18-31 overall and 10-21 in the KCAC.

Game One

The Spires got down early to begin game one as the Coyotes hit two early home runs. KWU capitalized in the third inning with back-to-back doubles to extend the lead. The Spires had a chance to score in the bottom half of the inning but could not score any runs. A nine-run fourth inning gave Kansas Wesleyan all they needed to cruise the rest of the game. An RBI single by Jordan McClellan late in the game made the final score 17-1.

Game Two

Kansas Wesleyan again jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning to begin the second game. Brendan Roop then got the Spires on the board in the second inning with a two-run home run to cut into the lead. This would be the only runs the Spires would score for the rest of the day as a five-run fourth inning and a seven-run sixth inning for the Coyotes put the game out of reach for the 15-2 win. Roop went two for two with two RBIs and a run scored.
