Spires Fall to OKWU in Conference Opener

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team hosted Oklahoma Wesleyan to conclude their series with a doubleheader on Monday, resulting in a 4-1 win and a 14-1 loss. The Spires are now 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the KCAC.

Game One

Neither team could find an edge as game one remained tied until the 7th inning. The Eagles started to string together three runs and took a 7-4 into the top of the ninth inning. There, Jack Knutson doubled to right field, scoring Caleb McClellan, Ben Cordova, and Bryant Banks, tying the game once again and forcing extra innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the 11th inning that Eli Prine reached first base on an error made by the OKWU shortstop, allowing Daniel Martinez to score the game-winning run.

Game Two

Oklahoma Wesleyan showed off their offensive firepower in game two, scoring 14 runs in the first three innings. Saint Mary scored their only run of game two in the bottom of the first. A wild pitch by the Eagles allowed Knutson to score and moved Prine to second base. Oklahoma Wesleyan ended the Spire's threat in the first and held them scoreless throughout the rest of the day.
