Spires Fall in Game One to Builders

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team hosted Southwestern College to open their weekend series, resulting in a 9-4 loss. The Spires are now 14-12 overall and 8-7 in KCAC play.

 

After giving up one run in the top of the first, Kruz Wahwahsuck responded with an RBI in the bottom of the second and Brendan Roop scored via an error to give the SPires a 2-1 lead. Roop drove in two more runs in the next inning to extend the Saint Mary lead to three runs. Southwestern seized momentum in the top half of the fourth, driving in four runs and taking a 5-4 lead over the Spires. 

 

The Saint Mary offense was held scoreless after the second inning, while the Builders got two more runs across the plate in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 9-4 lead over Spires. Saint Mary threatened the Builder's lead in the bottom of the ninth but left two runners stranded on the base and fell to Southwestern.

The Spires will conclude their weekend series against Southwestern with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Leavenworth, Kansas.
