Baseball Drops Mid-Week Series Opener to Tabor 13-9

Hillsboro, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Baseball team traveled to take on Tabor College to open their mid-week series on Tuesday, resulting in a 13-9 loss. The Spires are now 16-18 overall, 10-12 in conference play, and hold the eighth spot in the KCAC standings.

Three home runs in the first four innings gave the Bluejays a comfortable 7-1 lead over the Spires. Tabor added to their lead with a four-run bottom of the fifth to take a sizeable nine-run lead. Up until the top of the seventh, Ben Brandt had the only run driven in on the day after a ground ball to the shortstop allowed Eli Prine to score. Saint Mary posted three more runs in the seventh inning after RBI singles from Kruz Wahwahsuck and Prine.

Brendan Roop finished the inning with an RBI double to make it an 11-4 ball game. In the next inning, Aidan Hartig made it 11-5 after a base hit up the middle drove in Saul Vazquez-Alvarado. Daniel Martinez followed Hartig by hitting hit his first home run of the season to make it a four-run ball game. Struggles on the mound continued for Saint Mary after a walk, and a balk allowed two runs to score, making the score 13-7. A two-out base hit to center field from Bryce Turner drove in two more runs to make it a four-run game again. A flyout ended the SPires two our rally and the game one, resulting in a 13-9 loss.
