Covington Has Six Touchdowns in 57-18 Win Over Swedes

Lindsborg, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Football team traveled to take on the Bethany Swedes on Saturday night, resulting in a 57-18 win. Thanks to Erick Covington's six touchdowns, the Spires are now 2-3 overall and in the KCAC this year. 

 

Saint Mary struck first on the opening drive after Covington hit Michael Gazzana for a 56-yard touchdown to take the lead. A field goal on the second drive of the day gave the Spires an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter. A forced fumble by Isaias Guizar on the Swede's second drive gave Saint Mary the ball back on the Bethany three-yard line. 

 

After a three-yard touchdown run from Covington to make it a 17-0 ball game, the Spires score 14 more unanswered points to make it a 30-0 with four minutes left in the first quarter. Davien Norman was also targeted for a touchdown by Covington for the Spire's only score of the quarter. 

 

Bethany ended the third quarter to make it a 37-18 game with one quarter to play. Gazzana, Jair Stewart, and Sebastian Konate all contributed with touchdowns in the fourth quarter to give Saint Mary a 57-18 win. The Spire's defense held the Swedes to a season-low 97 rushing yards and held them to only three third-down conversions.
