Spires Fall to Cottey 27-0

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team hosted Cottey College in a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, resulting in a 27-0 loss. The Spires are now 0-6 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

The Spires were unable to score in the early going of the game, with multiple drives stalling around midfield. Cottey drove down the field on their second drive of the day to make it a 6-0 game. Backed up in their own territory, Saint Mary gave up a safety. Jerrica Johnson stopped the Comet's following drive dead in its tracks with an interception in the endzone. Cottey scored two more touchdowns right before the end of the half to make the score 21-0.

Johnson again ended the Comet's drive short with an interception to open the third quarter. Saint Mary was able to drive the length of the field on the ensuing drive but could not find the endzone on fourth down and turned the ball over. Both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the third quarter. An untimely interception ended what seemed to be a promising drive for the Spires with just five minutes to go. Cottey found the endzone one last time to build a 27-0 lead.
