Flag Football Falls to Kansas Wesleyan

Leavenworth, Kan.– The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team hosted Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday, resulting in a 51-0 loss. The Spire's overall record is now 0-7 overall and 0-7 in the KCAC.

The Coyotes wasted no time striking first as a six-play 66-yard drive capped off with a touchdown gave them the early 7-0 lead. The ensuing drive for the Spires was quickly halted as Anayah Hooks was sacked on back-to-back plays to force a punt. Kansas Wesleyan then took advantage with another score to extend their lead. As the quarter came to a close, KWU took advantage of a quick three-and-out by USM to make the score 19-0. The Spire defense held strong for the second quarter, only allowing one score and headed into halftime trailing 25-0.

The second half showed a promising opening drive for Saint Mary that stalled just past midfield. This led to an 11-play drive resulting in another score for the Coyotes, putting the Spires in an even deeper deficit. Stout defensive play by Kansas Wesleyan forced Saint Mary into multiple three-and-outs, leading to more touchdowns for KWU. One late drive for the Spires ended with an interception as the Coyotes cruised to the 51-0 win. Hooks completed 12 of 30 pass attempts on the day for 66 yards, while Elle Campbell had six tackles, along with four catches for 26 yards.
