Spires Fall in Regular Season Finale

Salina, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team concluded the regular season on the road against Kansas Wesleyan, resulting in a 57-0 loss. The Spires are now 1-9 overall and 1-9 in the KCAC. 

 

The first two drives of the day showed promise for Saint Mary, moving the ball well down the field, but both stalled around midfield. 

 

The Spire's defense was not able to slow down the KWU offenses and gave up two touchdowns in the opening quarter. Saint Mary could not get the ball moving in the second quarter and had two turnovers. 

 

Kansas Wesleyan capitalized on the turnovers and good field position and scored three more touchdowns, going up 35-0 heading into halftime. 

 

On the second drive of the third quarter, Saint Mary threatened to score had gone the length of the field, but could not convert on fourth and eight from the Coyotes' 28-yard line. 

 

The Spires gave up 22 more points in the second half to make the final score 57-0 in favor of Kansas Wesleyan. 

 

Jerrica Johnson led the team in rushing and receiving with 73 total yards of offense, she also had seven tackles on the day.
