Women's Flag Football Bested By KWU in First Round of KCAC Tournament

Lee's Summit, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Flag Football team competed in the first round of the 2024 KCAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, resulting in a 46-6 loss. 

 

Saint Mary went down early after KWU scored on the opening drive in just six plays to take a 6-0 lead. The Spire's ensuing drive was unsuccessful in scoring to tie the game up but gave the ball back to the Coyotes. That drive went four plays and resulted in another touchdown for KWU and gave them a 12-0 lead. An unfortunate interception by USM to open the second quarter led to three more unanswered touchdowns from the Coyotes, making it a 34-0 ball game heading into halftime. 

 

Kansas Wesleyan opened the second half with a touchdown to give the Coyotes a 40-0 lead with eight minutes to go in the third quarter. Saint Mary finally had an answer in the third quarter when Cheyenne Brooks hit Sade Ervin for 28 yards to make it 40-6. The Coyotes scored as time expired in the third quarter to give KWU another 40-point lead. A scoreless fourth quarter, making the final 46-6, ending the Spire's season.

 

The Spires concluded the season with an overall record of 3-12 and a conference record of 3-10, improving on last year's 1-10 record.
