Men's Basketball Starts Strong but Fall to Builders

Winfield, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Basketball team took on Southwestern College on Monday, resulting in a 98-55 loss. The Spires are now 5-15 overall and 1-13 in the KCAC.

Braylen Duncan and Joey Schultz combined for the Spire's first ten points giving Saint Mary an early 10-2 lead. The Builders continued to struggle, and after a layup from Deshaud St. Martin, the Spires had all of the momentum and a ten-point lead. Luke Mackey hit a three just past the halfway mark of the opening half giving Saint Mary a 26-28 lead. With just five minutes to go, Southwestern was able to tie things up at 30 after that, the Builders went on a 13-3 run on the Spires and went into halftime with a nine-point 42-33 lead.

Southwestern came out of the break looking to continue their offensive pressure and went on a 14-3 scoring run, making the score 56-36. St. Martin and Quentin Williams make shots to try and cut the Builder's lead, but the offensive output of Southwestern kept the game out of reach for the Spires. As the second half came to a close, the Builders continued to score and extend their lead. Jayson Luse hit one final three for the Spires in the last minute to make the final, 98-55.
